During its return to the earth, commercial spaceship Nostromo intercepts a distress signal from a distant planet. When a three-member team of the crew discovers a chamber containing thousands of eggs on the planet, a creature inside one of the eggs attacks an explorer. The entire crew is unaware of the impending nightmare set to descend upon them when the alien parasite planted inside its unfortunate host is birthed.
In the new interpretation of the classic 1979 film "Alien," a diverse team of space miners aboard the state-of-the-art spaceship Nostromo is awakened from cryosleep by a mysterious signal originating from an uncharted planet. Leading the crew is Captain Jordan, played by Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok), who flips the original character's gender to offer a fresh perspective on the story. The crew also includes Chief Engineer Lu, portrayed by John Cho (Star Trek, Searching), and rookie pilot Aria, brought to life by Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
As they land on the environmentally ravaged planet, the astronauts encounter an abandoned alien ship containing humanoid fossil remains and a series of mysterious eggs. When one of the eggs hatches, it releases a spore that infects Flynn, the ship's botanist, played by Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy). The crew slowly discovers that the alien species is using the planet's harsh environment as its breeding ground, sending a message about the consequences of unchecked industrialization and habitat exploitation.
The film features prominent LGBTQ+ representation as Capt. Jordan and Communications Officer Riley, portrayed by Dominique Jackson (Pose), navigate their relationship amidst the intense events unfolding on the ship. In a thrilling twist, the alien creature grows at a rapid pace to become an unstoppable predator, picking off the crew one by one. The crew must overcome their fears, prejudices, and personal demons to save themselves and ensure the threat does not reach Earth.
In a brief cameo, fans will be delighted to see Sigourney Weaver, the original Ellen Ripley, as an influential Weyland-Yutani Corporation executive who warns the crew about the true nature of their mission.
The intense plot, modernized themes, and fresh character dynamics make this reimagining of "Alien" a thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi experience for modern audiences.
