Tintin and his friends go to Syldavia and join a secret space program.
In this modern reimagining of "Destination Moon," Tintin and his friends embark on a thrilling journey set in 2023. The story begins as Tintin, played by Timothée Chalamet (known for "Dune"), faces a mysterious message from Syldavia's hidden space agency. Unlike the original, this time, the agency is run by Dr. Nadia Tournesol, portrayed by renowned actress Zendaya ("Euphoria"), who brings a fresh and empowered perspective to the role once played by a male character.
Captain Haddock is now open about his struggle with sobriety, highlighting mental health awareness in a nuanced portrayal by John Boyega ("Star Wars"). Tintin and Captain Haddock, alongside the brilliant Dr. Tournesol, team up with new characters such as engineer Mira Patel, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas ("The Matrix Resurrections"), emphasizing diverse casting and expanded female roles.
Their mission to the moon is driven by a desperate quest to find sustainable energy solutions, adding an environmental theme. Syldavia's space program is now a coalition of young scientists working to combat climate change by exploring eco-friendly resources on the lunar surface. As they navigate the complex dynamics of their diverse team, Dupont (played by Rami Malek, "Bohemian Rhapsody") and Dupond (played by Danai Gurira, "Black Panther") offer comedic relief while tackling social issues such as inclusion and acceptance.
The film pays homage to its origins with a brief cameo by the original voice of Tintin, Thierry Wermuth, as the director of the space program, linking past and present. This exciting adventure brings Tintin and friends into the modern age, blending thrilling science fiction with timely themes.
