In the adorably different town of Uglyville, weirdness is celebrated, strangeness is special and beauty is embraced as more than meets the eye. After traveling to the other side of a mountain, Moxy and her UglyDoll friends discover Perfection -- a town where more conventional dolls receive training before entering the real world to find the love of a child.

In this modern reimagining of "UglyDolls", Maya Rudolph, known for her comedic roles on Saturday Night Live, plays Moxy, the optimistic and colorful UglyDoll. In a cinematic twist, Uglyville isn’t a forgotten factory anymore but a vibrant eco-friendly commune set in the heart of a literal trash heap, bringing environmental themes into focus.
The film introduces new, diverse characters, including a gender-swapped UglyDog, now played by rising star from popular Netflix series "Never Have I Ever", Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Maitreyi's UglyDog is a tech whizz, incorporating updated references that appeal to today’s digital-savvy audience.
Meanwhile, the role of LuckyBat is taken up by critically acclaimed Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, known for his roles in "G.I. Joe" and "Magnificent Seven". His character imparts ancient wisdom through hilarious social media-infused proverbs.
In an expansion of the original narrative, we see Wage (Phylicia Rashad from "Creed") leading a movement to incorporate more sustainable practices into Uglyville's lifestyle. Following an unexpected journey to the town of Perfection, the dolls take on societal norms and rigid beauty standards in an effort to promote self-acceptance and love.
