First film by Mark LaPore.
In the modern remake of the 1973 John Carpenter’s classic “Halloween,” audiences are invited into a chilling portrayal of Halloween night in a small town. This time, however, the protagonist role is reimagined with a gender swap, introducing a new character, Michaela Myers (played by Amandla Stenberg, known for "The Hate U Give"), who breaks out from a mental institution to return to her old neighborhood.
As she stalks her victims with unnerving persistence, layers of her twisted sanity are uncovered, subtly raising awareness on mental health issues. Meanwhile, Jaden Smith, known for "The Karate Kid," portrays an updated version of Laurie Strode, now Laurence "Larry" Strode, who's unknowingly become Michaela’s obsession.
The setting remains the small town of Haddonfield but modernized, reflecting contemporary suburban life with scenes of eco-friendly practices, including the use of electric cars and solar-powered homes. In another twist, Laurence’s best friend, Sam, played by trans actor Elliot Fletcher ("Shameless"), unveils an evolving dynamic as they navigate their deepening relationship amidst the terror thrust upon them.
The cast is rounded off by the original 'Laurie Strode', Jamie Lee Curtis, who makes a brief yet impactful cameo, delighting the fans of the original movie without overshadowing the new elements of the plot.
The audience gets a dose of nostalgia mixed with fresh perspectives, as this retelling of "Halloween" remains faithful to the chilling atmosphere while boldly exploring themes relevant to today’s society.
